Bosnia and Herzegovina is small enough to cross in a day and deep enough to spend a lifetime in. This week follows a simple line from the mountains around Sarajevo down to the warm valley of the Neretva, stopping where the country is at its most beautiful and least hurried.
You will sleep in family-run guesthouses, eat what is in season, walk old shepherd trails and swim in water so clear it looks painted. The group is never larger than fourteen, so there is always room for a quiet moment.
Few places in Europe still feel this unhurried. Villages like Lukomir have been lived in the same way for centuries, the rivers run turquoise, and a coffee is never just a coffee here: it is a reason to sit down and talk.
We travel in late spring and early autumn, when the waterfalls are full, the trails are cool and the towns belong to the people who live in them.
Each morning starts with a gentle forty-minute movement and breath session outdoors, open to every level. Days are active but never rushed, with three to five hours of walking or exploring and long lunches in between.
Evenings are free or shared around one table, depending on how you feel. Nothing is compulsory, including the early mornings.
Amra grew up between Sarajevo and the mountains of Bjelašnica and has guided small groups through Bosnia for over ten years.
She leads the morning sessions and knows which café serves the best coffee in every town we pass through.
Tarik is a certified mountain guide from Konjic who has walked every trail around the Rakitnica canyon.
He runs the cooking class on day five and is quietly responsible for most of the best meals of the week.
Daily breakfast, five lunches and six dinners, from Sarajevo ćevapi to slow-cooked lamb in the highlands. Vegetarian options every day.
Private minibus with a local driver for the whole week, including pick-up from Sarajevo airport and drop-off in Mostar or back in Sarajevo.
Pick-up from Sarajevo airport and transfer to your hotel in the old town. Welcome walk through Baščaršija at sunset, followed by dinner together.
Morning movement session, then a guided walk from the Ottoman bazaar to the Austro-Hungarian avenues. Cable car up Trebević for the view, and an afternoon at the spring of Vrelo Bosne.
Drive into the Bjelašnica highlands and walk to Lukomir, the highest village in the country. Lunch with a local family and a short hike along the rim of the Rakitnica canyon. Night in a mountain guesthouse.
Slow morning in the mountains, then down through the Neretva valley to Mostar. Evening walk across the Old Bridge while the divers wait for an audience.
Visit the dervish house at Blagaj, where the Buna river flows straight out of the cliff. Afternoon cooking class with Tarik, then dinner on what we made.
A full day at the Kravica waterfalls: swimming, reading and lunch by the water. Optional rafting on the Neretva for those who want more adventure.
Final morning session by the river and a last coffee in Mostar old town. Transfer back to Sarajevo airport, or stay on in Mostar.
